Camping Chronicles: Wickked and Me at Blakeley Historic State Park

When you roll into Blakeley Historic State Park with an orange Jeep named Wickked towing your pop-up camper, you’re not just camping—you’re making an entrance. Blakeley isn’t used to this level of style, but we’re here to change that.

Camp Setup: Surprisingly Smooth (For Once)

Let’s start with a win: setting up the pop-up. No drama here—this baby popped up like a dream. I stood back with a triumphant grin, admiring my work, while Wickked sat nearby, its orange paint gleaming in the afternoon sun like it knew it was the coolest thing in the park.

With the camper set up and chairs arranged just so, it was time to kick back. No raccoons tried to steal my snacks, and the local wildlife was downright respectful. Maybe Wickked gives off “don’t mess with us” vibes.

Exploring Blakeley: Jeepin’ at a Leisurely Pace

Blakeley Historic State Park offers plenty of trails and history, and Wickked was ready to show off—though we kept it tame this time. No mud splashes or hardcore off-roading; just some smooth cruising on the park’s gravel roads, taking in the towering pines and moss-draped oaks.

The battlefield was a highlight. Walking the trails where soldiers once stood gave me chills (the good kind). Wickked stayed parked, looking stately and proud, as if it were honoring the history, too.

Camp Life: Keeping It Chill

Evenings at Blakeley are magical, with the kind of quiet that city life can’t touch. With a campfire lit and went full gourmet with my dinner: sandwiches and s’mores. No flaming marshmallows or raccoon heists this time—just a perfect char and a little smoke in my eyes because apparently, campfires always know where you’re sitting.

Wickked, parked just outside the glow of the firelight, seemed to enjoy the peaceful vibes. I might’ve talked to it a little. Don’t judge—after all, who else was going to appreciate my jokes about “popping up” in Blakeley?

The Blakeley Experience

Blakeley Historic State Park is the perfect mix of history and nature, and the pop-up camper and I (with Wickked as our trusty steed) soaked it all in. Between the towering trees, the rich Civil War history, and the peaceful atmosphere, it’s a place that feels like stepping back in time—without losing modern comforts like s’mores and Jeeps.

Would I come back? Absolutely. There are still trails to explore, sunsets to watch, and campfires to light. Wickked and I agree: Blakeley might not have changed us, but we sure left our (orange) mark.

Pro Tips for Adventurers:

  • Bring a good chair for campfire lounging—it’s essential.
  • Keep the Jeep looking sharp; it’s part of the experience.
  • Don’t forget marshmallows (seriously, never forget the marshmallows).

Until next time, Blakeley, keep it cool—and maybe consider adding a parking spot labeled “Reserved for Wickked.”
